Monika Schmid-Wendtner, MD
Professor of Dermatology and Venereology, Specialist in Allergology and Medical Tumor Therapy
Professor Schmid-Wendtner completed her medical studies in Freiburg, Munich, and Basel. She was trained in her specialties at the University of Munich (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. mult. G. Plewig). Professor Schmid-Wendtner was certified as a specialist in dermatology and venereology in 1997, and received her additional certification in allergology in 1999.
This was followed by a two-year postdoctoral fellowship with the University and Science Program III, University of Munich. In 2003, she received her academic teaching qualification and was appointed an assistant professor at the university in 2004.
From 2004 to 2011, Professor Schmid-Wendtner served as senior physician at the Dermatology and Allergology Clinic at the University of Bonn (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Dr. ès sci. T. Bieber). In 2008, she received additional certification in medical cancer treatments. In addition to her research focus on the sonographic imaging of lymph nodes and skin tumors, Professor Schmid-Wendtner served as head of dermatological oncology and the melanoma section at the Bonn offices of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Cologne-Bonn.
Professor Schmid-Wendtner is the author of numerous academic articles and books, a consultant for the German Cancer Society, and a reviewer for renowned scientific journals. She is a member of numerous professional societies; of note are the Nevus Network Germany, the German Society of Dermatology (DDG), the German Cancer Society (DKG), the Dermatologic Cooperative Oncology Group (DeCOG) and the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM). Professor Schmid-Wendtner is also a trainer in the use of high-frequency sonography at DEGUM and the society's deputy chair.
In March 2010, she was named associate professor of dermatology at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich. Since January 2012, Professor Schmid-Wendtner has been in private practice at Interdisciplinary Oncology Center Munich.
